- Quiet week
-
I haven't posted anything this last week, as we have been mainly working in the back office as I mentioned earlier to improve some of our facilities (Affiliate program, improved blogging facility, ...) and I don't have much news to give you, so would rather post nothing than something irrelevant.
We expect the new t-shirt "Peanut Butter & Jelly Wrestling" to be in-stores around the 21st of August, and are eager to be wearing one around town. Our community is growing every day, with new members signing up from all over the world, which I find very exciting. I'm also really stoked about the quality of the designs that are being uploaded, with several distinct styles emerging from the different designers around the world. An international platform for designers to showcase their skills and be judged by an international community will result in some interesting and original designs... so keep submitting those designs, as we'll be picking the next winner soon!!

We have sent the artwork to our printers and should have it available for sale within three weeks! I for one can't wait to add this great tee to my collection!! Well done Ah, keep up the good work!

- Amsterdam Streetlab
-
From graffiti artists to sneaker artists, from established brands to young, unknown designers showing their first collection, they were all there this weekend at the Amsterdam Streetlab Festival. Bright colors and loud music seemed to be the intertwining thread throughout the different mediums, with each stand brighter and more vibrant than the next. There were collections inspired by the homeless, the founders of "street" fashion, and even a collection designed by a group of young homeless designers in London. Graffiti artists from all over the world were outside doing murals, and the Sneaker Pimps exhibition blew my mind. What these artists have done elevates the sneaker from fashion accessory to a work of art, and it would be a crime to even considering wearing them again!

What struck me the most overall, was the use of color... it was like walking through a kaleidoscope, with the yellows blending into orange, pink into purple.. check out some of our pictures here to get an idea. Looks like color is the new black... maybe something for you to keep in mind when designing a new submission?? - 30 July 2007 | 0 Comments
- Voting Closed
-
As some of you may have noticed, the voting closed page currently has two categories, accepted & declined, where the designs automatically move to at the end of the voting period according to the specific number of votes that they received. This number has currently been set too high and all the designs are being moved into then declined section. We just recently launched and are still tweaking the voting system, this is being worked on at the moment. All designs that finish voting will be moved into one category, 'Voting Closed'. From this section, GT will the choose which design(s) will win and be printed, taking into account the total amount of your votes and comments. We find this to be more human than "declined" or "accepted", as declined is rather a harsh term and who are we to judge you in this manner?

- Submitted designs
-
The excitement level is high this morning in the GT office. We're about to head off this morning to the Streetlab fair in Amsterdam, our first design to be printed is about to be announced, and we have had loads of new members sign up over the past few days! Welcome to all of you and keep up the good work in submitting designs!
Something we have noticed though is that some designs that are being submitted here have already been submitted elsewhere before. This is not a problem, as we at GT acknowledge the amount of time and effort that does into creating a design, and believe that you should have the chance to be renumerated for said efforts, be it here or on another similar site. What we would like to see in the future, is that if you have had the chance to submit elsewhere before, that you take into account the comments and suggestions made by the voters there in order to tweak and rework your design before submitting it here. It's just a small suggestion to keep in mind to increase your chances of winning.....

- Intellectual Property
-
Thanks to the the help of Jay from funkyduds and one of our members (Raid71) it was brought to our attention that one of the designs in the voting section was using a copyrighted image, namely Elements. Our apologies for this error, rest assured that we have removed the design from the voting section and notified the designer that this is something we frown upon here at Gorillatank.com. GT takes the issue of intellectual property and copyright very seriously, and will do our best to ensure that the designs we approve for voting are not copyrighted or printed anywhere else. However, some images and/or designs may not be known to us and therefore we appreciate your help in alerting us to anything we may not have noticed. If you see something here that belongs to someone else, either post a comment under said design, or contact us directly via the contact link.
In light of this situation, we have decided to brighten your day with some good news! Submitted designs can now include gradients and half-tones! We look forward to receiving some exciting designs with these new parameters. Seems like a good idea to us... the the lesser the limitations, the more creative the designs!

- Streetlab Festival Amsterdam
-
Not like we ever need an 'excuse' to visit Amsterdam, but this weekend there is a fun and exciting festival taking place for us fashion and design junkies.
From Friday the 27th till Sunday the 29th of July 2007, Streetlab will present the first edition of a new international festival on "street fashion" and "street art." Coinciding with Amsterdam Fashion Week, this festival will showcase the work of over a 100 young designers and artists in fashion, design, film, photography, street art and music. The program is packed, with documentaries, fashion shows, workshops, a t-shirt design competition, a vintage sneaker exhibition called sneaker pimps (can't wait.. as I'm a big sneaker addict!!) , and a different Streetlab party at the famous Flex bar every night. Check their website here for the complete program of events. The GorillaTank team will be there throughout the weekend checking out all the cool stuff and doing some good old networking and promotion. If anyone happens to be in the A'dam area over the weekend, we'd love to meet you there and buy you a drink!

- Free T-shirts
-
These past few days have flown by, with new members signing up, and a few new designs being added to the site. However, there is still a long way for us to go, and that's why we have been working hard behind the scenes in order to improve our community and make the GT experience a more enjoyable one for all of you. Unfortunately, this has kept me far busier than I anticipated and I have not found the time to update this blog as much as I would have liked to, but will be more consistent from now on.
We are in the process of creating an RSS feed for this blog and the members’ search page as we speak. These should be available shortly, enabling you to keep up-to date with all the GT fun as it happens, and allowing you to better promote yourself! Furthermore, keep your eyes posted for our new affiliate program and referral system, making it easier for you to earn seeds and cash! That's right cash… (More about that in the next posts).
Further as we are about to name the first winner of the gorilla tank community, I am pleased to announce that we are now offering a free t-shirt if you purchase two shirts from GT. Buy two, get the third one free!

- Flag Art
-
You may have seen these before, as they have been spread around the earth by an email campaign called "Meet the World", but if you haven't, they're worth looking at. The art featured below is an initiative by a group of young brazilian artists, who have given a new twist to the flags of several countries, using facts and figures from UNO and Amnesty International. The images speak for themselves, more flags can be found here.

- Caption Contest
-
As my last few posts have all been of a serious work related nature, I thought I'd write a little less today and involve you more. For the one who comes up with the best caption for the following illustration, we're offering one free t-shirt and 20 seeds!!!

Btw.. this is a completely random picture I got off fileswap this morning, a site to check out when you're bored and have nothing to do. Basically, you upload a file, picture, pdf, or whatever you want, click swap, and wait and see what you get in return. Give one file, get one free. It acts as a big black box. You put in one file and you will receive a different file in exchange which someone swapped earlier. Start swapping and you'd be surprised what you get in return!!

- Multiple votes do not count!
-
Judging from some of the feedback we've been getting over the past few days, there are still some things that need to be clarified concerning the voting and rewards system. It appears that there are some of you out there that think you can influence the votes by voting more than once for a certain design... however, only the last vote recorded counts by a member. Since we use a weighted voting system (i.e. the higher your status in the community the more your vote counts) as well as an average of total votes, sometimes clicking on GENIUS (for example) twice in a row will up the vote by 1 (or 2 or 3) leading some members to be fooled into thinking that multiple votes count... they do not.
Secondly, several members have contacted me concerning the referral system currently in place, with the new member having to enter the referrer's GT screen name. The consensus from these comments is that this is an unhandy method, as human error and laziness may cause misspelling or even omission of the referrer's name, which in turn leads to no one getting credit for the actual referral. This is something we are currently looking into and will be changing in the near future.
My thanks to those of you who sent us some feedback, we know that GTank is still a work in progress, and with your input and ideas, we can grow together as a community towards something great.

- Cold Feet?
-
It's been 5 days since we launched the site, and things are moving along slowly. Our first (few) orders have been shipped and we've had many new members joining our community, as well as lots of visitors just passing through and window shopping. However the one thing we haven't had very many as of yet are new designs in the voting section; is this because some of you may be shy and are waiting for others to test the waters before jumping in?? This is the question that has been going through my head over the last few days. We have received some nice designs already, thanks to those of you that have submitted a design and/or have voted on one!
On a different note, we are very interested in some initial feedback from those of you that have already taken the time to become members and have spent some time perusing the site. Post your comments here or send them to hello@gorillatank.com and we'll get back to you within 24hrs. We believe that you as members are the backbone of our business and are very interested in what you have to say.

- Online and Open
-
GorillaTank is now officially open for business with the 1st three designs available for sale. There are also several designs in the voting section, and more to be added in the near future. Let the contest begin! What we need now, dear friends and members of the GT community, is for you to go out and spread the word. Refer your friends, vote on some designs, add comments, and start earning some seeds. Remember, the more you participate, the more seeds you earn and the cheaper your t-shirts get!!

Counting the hours until we go live with our site.. just waiting for the payment system to go online, I thought this would be a good idea to introduce ourselves to you. This is me, Boudewijn :
as you can see.. I'm also currently modeling our first batch of t-shirts for lack of more photogenic material! As we grow and evolve, I promise the models will be more exciting, but as we're doing everything in-house on a tight budget, I'm afraid you'll bee seeing more of me for a while longer.

My partner in this venture, Olivier: who is a little more camera-shy (which is kind of normal as he is our in-house photographer.) Together we hope to provide you with a platform to express your artistic talents, as well as facilitate a shop of limited edition original teeshirt designs for you to wear and show off wherever you may desire. We have spent many months on this project and are excited and eager for things to start, as we hope you are! Please give us any feedback, comments, or suggestions.. we are always happy to hear from you, be it constructive, inspirational, or even negative feedback, and will always respond to your comments with pleasure.

- Miss Tee
-
"Brainstorming" a little at the beach over the weekend, we came to the conclusion that we needed a mascot for our new site. What better mascot for a t-shirt store than Miss Tee, a pillow in the form of a t-shirt that we can easily dress in the latest Gtank design and take with us everywhere we go. So here she is... (in order to make sure we stay youth-friendly and out of respect for Miss Tee we have decided not to show her topless at this time) I present to you Miss Tee:

We've received our first batch of T-shirts in the post yesterday! Pandemonium in the office of course, ripping open boxes to catch a first glimpse of the new shirts. Spent the whole day yesterday on the floor of our storage room sorting out different sizes and models, and finally got everything stored in a neat and orderly fashion.
We are delighted to announce that the quality of the shirts is outstanding, thank you both to our supplier and screenprinter! As of yet, we do not have any GT label in our shirts, this will be the subject of a future competition, details to follow here soon.

- Up and running...
-
Once again, things are taking a little longer than expected, but the site is now officially up and running. There are three designs at the printer and should be available for sale in the next month. The initial designs were chosen by us at gorillatank.com, in order to have t-shirts on our site for the launch. Once the shirts return from the printer... we will launch the official contest, and start seeing some of your creative genius through your designs!
On another note, we experienced some technical difficulties and lost some of my earlier posts.. including some member comments. Rest assured that our technical staff has fixed this issue and it should not be recurring again.
